Gentle bonds
The fashion as a cultural message
Fashion designers are also cultural ambassadors. Then fashion becomes the message. The Japanese fashion designer Yumi Katsura sees herself as an ambassador of Japanese and European culture. With the couture collection for spring and summer of 2018, she built a bridge between the Far East and the West under the motto “Bonds”.

Olympias of Epirus and the woman’s strength
Fashion from Greece in Paris
Behind a successful man is mostly a strong woman. This had applied, for example, to Olympias of Epirus, princess from the tribe of the Molossians and then consort of Philip II, King of the Macedonians, because it had been her aim to make her son Alexander III, the Great, to the most powerful ruler in the, at that time, known world.

The health of grace
The fashion and the salvation
The German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche had once remarked to German composer Richard Wagner: “Wagner has not thought about anything as deeply as about salvation. His opera is the opera of salvation.”

There spoke the old chief of the red Indians
The fashion and the Charleston
The cultural heritage of foreign peoples is a rich treasure, which must be salvaged and preserved for posterity. Beirut fashion designer Zuhair Murad, who respected indigenous cultures all along, turned his attention to the American continent. He discovered the symbols and visual vocabulary of the Native Americans, especially the Sioux, Navajos and Iroquois.

On the way into the Elysium
Fashion in the circus arena
The event site “CIRQUE D’HIVER BouglionE” with its circus performances and various other events has been an institution and a symbol in Paris since the year 1852. Milan ready‑to‑wear autumn/winter 2018/2019

Wild abstractions
The fashion and the kinetic art
The Milan fashion week was on a tear. The calendar of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode for the ready‑to‑wear week in February and March 2018 still contents only seventy-nine parades, while the calendar of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana for the ready‑to‑wear week in February 2018 reached sixty-nine parades, so that both fashion weeks went head to head nearly.

Circus life
The fashion and the uniformity
Sometimes a fashion presentation causes outrage and resistance. The Italian animal welfare association “ESSERE ANIMALI” pointed out in the Milan fashion week, that there were still fur farms in Italy. According to its statement, one hundred and sixty thousand minks died each year in Italy, whereas such a practice had been prohibited elsewhere in Europe long ago.

Capucine and Altea di Vallenberg
Fashionable diabolicism or diabolic fashion
When you know, whence you come, you also know, whither you shall go, because past and future are related. This also applied to the brand “Les Copains”. Stefania Bandiera, the fashion designer, and Alessandro Mariani, the chief executive officer of the fashion house in Bologna, thought about its future, while they were dealing with the historic heritage.

Sometimes more, sometimes less
Fashionable compositions
The type of dandy fascinated the Milan fashion designers Luisa Beccaria and Lucilla Bonaccorsi. They looked for a very feminine counterpart. They found the British singer and actress Marian Evelyn Faithfull alias Marianne Faithfull. The British writer and photographer Charles Lutwidge Dodgson alias Lewis Carroll’s dreamlike world and the Italian painter Giovanni Boldini’s aesthetics were added.

Elisabetta Franchi, Monica Vitti and the charismatic irony
Back to the sparkle of the 1970s
The fashion designer Elisabetta Franchi from Granarolo dell’Emilia near Bologna knows how to stage fashion glamorously. This time the Italian actress Maria Luisa Ceciarelli alias Monica Vitti was her inspiring muse as a modern symbol of authenticity. Everything revolved around the style of the 1970s as an era of female rebellion and power.

A song for Milan
A musical journey through fashion

The Bauhaus in Milan
The fashion and the symbolism
There was something to celebrate for the brand “mila schön milano”, nowadays in Japanese hands, because the Italian fashion designer Maria Carmen Nutrizio alias Mila Schön had opened her first atelier in Milan in the year 1958. The graphic footprint, which she had left with her creations in the fashion world, abided a reinterpretation.

Catharsis
The fashion and the theatre
Just as theatre has a “cathartic and restorative” effect, so fashion activates the “collective and individual spark of change”. This was the fashion designer Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna’s firm conviction; she considered herself the guardian of Italian cultural heritage like her in the last year deceased mother and predecessor Laura Biagiotti.

Paris couture autumn/winter 2018/2019

Hedonistic Amazons
The fashion and the exotic
As much as the content and style of the presentations in the Paris couture week fascinate someone, so much their scheduling annoys someone. Recently, the cases of date collisions became more frequent.

Through the rose window
Art nouveau in the fashion
Windows exist for the lighting and for the view. Nevertheless, the term has something ambiguous. Either it is just the bay in a wall of a building or it is about a closure of such a bay, which usually consists of a glass, enclosed in a frame.

The red thread of fashionable voyages of discovery
Lordly fashion
The French writer Charles-Pierre Baudelaire is extremely popular with fashion designers. The Milanese Rocco Adriano Galluccio had referred to his literary work for his own brand “ALCOOLIQUE” the with ready‑to‑wear collection “LES FLEURS DU MAL” for autumn and winter of 2017/2018.

Fin de siècle
The fashion and the cultural decay
The phenomenon, where optimistic mood, future euphoria, fear of the future, apocalyptic mood, world-weariness, fascination of death and transience, falling back into childishness, taedium vitae, happy-go-lucky attitude, frivolity and decadence come together, has a name: fin de siècle.

Twenty-five years
News from the fashion brand “VIKTOR&ROLF”
Twenty-five years are a long time. In the year 1983, the song “25 Years” of the British band “The Catch” had been concerned wasted time and punishment. Other than in the song, there was something to celebrate in Paris recently. The Dutch fashion designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren looked back happily on twenty-five years of creative work.

When God created woman
Fashion from the Riviera
The fashion designers Galia Lahav and Sharon Sever from Israel concerned themselves with nothing less than the topic, that God had created woman. It was about the feature motion picture “ET DIEU... CREA LA FEMME” – in the English version: “And God Created Woman” – by the French movie director and screenwriter Roger Vladimir Plemiannikov alias Roger Vadim from the year 1956, which had established the myth of the French actress Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot by the role of Juliette Hardy.
