The twentieth century had been a period of profound political, social and economic upheavals for Russians. Especially the period from the First World War via the revolutions to the civil war had meant a turning point in Russian history. The tragedy of destroying the ancient way of life, especially that of the Don Cossacks, – it had been about happiness and sorrow, obstacles and successes – had been the subject of one of the most significant works of Soviet Russian literature, namely of the novel “And Quiet Flows the Don” as the writer Mikhail Alexandrovich Sholokhov’s main work from the year 1928. The novel as a basis and the filming by the Soviet Russian film director and screenwriter Sergei Apollinariyevich Gerasimov in the year 1957, especially the personality of the female protagonists, namely the passionate and lively Aksinja and the quiet and gentle Natalja, impressed the Moscow fashion designer Ulyana Sergeenko very much.
