Ideals of beauty are subjects to constant change. An ideal of beauty of the late 19th century and early 20th century was the Gibson Girl, named after the American cartoonist and illustrator Charles Dana Gibson, as a symbol of modernity, physical attractiveness and personal empowerment: the figure statuary, the waist narrow, the head high. Rooted in her time, the Gibson Girl still stood for timeless elegance. In the endeavour to renew the savoir-faire and to create something contemporary again and again, the Beirut fashion designer Zuhair Murad took care of this key figure.
